Overcome Fever in Children After Immunization

Immunization is the right of every child. Because this can trigger the immune system to be stronger when dealing with certain viral or bacterial infections. But usually, parents are reluctant to bring their children for immunizations because it can cause fever in children. In fact, this can be overcome.

All vaccines used in the national immunization program (PIN) are safe and effective if the management and administration are in accordance with the rules given by the World Health Organization (WHO).

However, please note that none of the vaccines are free from Post-Immunization Incidence (KIPI), one of which is fever.

- Tips when a child has a fever after immunization

Although it can cause fever or even other KIPI, immunization must still be given.

In addition, if considered, far more benefits will be gained if a child is immunized compared to not immunizing just because he is afraid that the child will experience a range of KIPI that may not necessarily occur.

However, when a child has a fever after immunization, parents can take the following steps to overcome the fever.

- Give plenty to drink

When a child has a fever, the temperature in his body has increased, so that it can cause a decrease in water levels in the body's cells.

If this is allowed to continue for a long period of time, it will cause dehydration in children. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the intake of drinking water consumed by children to avoid dehydration.

- Wear cool and comfortable clothes

When a child has a fever, it often causes excessive sweating. Therefore, pay attention to the condition of children's clothes by avoiding damp clothing, then replace it with clothes that are cool and comfortable for children.

- Give a warm sponge

When a child has a fever, it is best to compress and bathe using warm water. Thus, blood vessels will dilate and skin pores will open, so that the heat contained in the body can evaporate out.

The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) recommends compresses on the folds of the armpits, groin and back, because it has extensive exposure, so it can more effectively reduce fever.

- Give a fever-lowering such as paracetamol

Before immunizing, especially those that can or often cause fever, you should prepare a fever-lowering medication at home that contains paracetamol. Give at a dose of up to 15 mg / kg every 6-8 hours, a maximum of 4 doses for 24 hours.

Welcoming the Immunization Month for School Children this fall in August, awareness of the importance of immunization for children needs to be increased. Fever in children after immunization is normal. However, parents need not worry. Because more positive effects arising from immunization compared with KIPI that may not necessarily occur. Even if your child has a fever, apply the various steps above to help reduce a child's fever.
